One day a farmer's donkey fell down into a well.
The animal cried piteously for hours, as the farmer tried to figure out what to do.
Finally the farmer decided that the animal was old, and the well needed to be covered up anyway. It just wasn't worth it, to even try to retrieve the donkey.
He invited all his neighbors to come over and help him. They came, one and all. Each grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt into the well – to fill the well, and bury the poor, troublesome donkey forever.
At first, the donkey realized what was happening and cried horribly. Then, to everyone's amazement, he quieted down. They imagined that the donkey must have given up, or died.
But, a few shovel-loads later, the farmer finally looked down the well and was astonished at what he saw. With every shovel of dirt that hit his back, the donkey was doing something amazing. He would shake it off and take a step up. As the village continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it off and take a step up, stepping on the very pile of the mud and rock that had been thrown at him, to send him to Davy Jones's Locker.
As the exhausted villagers finally gave the well every last piece of dirt they could throw in, an amazing thng happened – the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well, with each step planting his feet on the villagers' dirt, and trotted off!
Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds of dirt. The trick to getting out of the well the world wants to bury you in – is to shake off the dirt from the dirt-bags, and take a step up every time on the very stuff they have hurled at you. Each of our troubles is a stepping stone. We can get out of the deepest wells just by not stopping, never giving up! Shake it off, and take a step up!
Remember the five simple rules to be happy:
1. Free your heart from hatred.
2. Free your mind from worries.
3. Live simply.
4. Give more.
5. Expect less.
P.S.: The donkey later came back and kicked THE CRAP out of the farmer
that tried burying him.
Moral: When you try to cover your ass, it always comes back to get you!
